Located in New Lisbon on the south side of the Little Yellow River near Castle Rock Lake, the 15th Avenue access point provides boat launch capability for the area. This ramp requires a boat lift for launching. Note that recent infrastructure improvements have expanded parking and gravel access roads to the water's edge. The immediate launch area sits in a narrow section of river—in some spots the channel is only about 25 yards wide—so expect tight maneuvering conditions for larger vessels.
Paddlers should be aware that this is a popular recreational area with heavy boat traffic, especially on weekends. If you plan to fish or paddle during peak season (weekends and summer months), expect congestion from larger boats. Water quality can be compromised July through mid-September when algae blooms create greenish conditions. The nearby Necedah National Wildlife Refuge offers additional paddling and wildlife viewing opportunities for those seeking quieter waters. Spring and fall typically offer the best conditions for a more peaceful paddling experience on the Yellow River.
