Alton Bay Park, also known as Downing's Landing, provides convenient public access to Lake Winnipesaukee's southern basin. Located at the southern tip of Alton Bay on Route 11, this facility features a standard boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The site includes ample parking for vehicles and trailers, and amenities such as gas service are available on-site. Access is free with unlimited ramp use.
**Getting There:** From the Alton traffic circle, head 5½ miles toward Wolfeboro on Route 28, then turn left onto Roberts Cove Road to reach the launch area at Route 11.
**What to Expect:** Lake Winnipesaukee is New Hampshire's largest lake, offering extensive paddling opportunities across calm to moderate waters depending on conditions and location. The ramp provides straightforward access for launching and retrieving boats. This is a good jumping-off point for exploring the lake's bays and shoreline, though paddlers should be aware that Winnipesaukee can experience significant wind and motorboat traffic during peak seasons.
