The Ayala Cove Marina at Angel Island State Park provides a convenient boat ramp and docking access to explore the scenic San Francisco Bay. This site is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small powerboats looking to access the island and surrounding waters.
The marina offers 27 mooring buoys that can accommodate boats up to 50 feet in length. Pulling boats up to the shoreline or seawall is permitted, though visitors with disabilities may have difficulty accessing the site from the beach due to the seawall. The park can only be reached by public ferry or private boat, as there are no roads or bridges connecting it to the mainland.
Boaters should be prepared for the open water conditions of the San Francisco Bay, which can experience wind, waves, and swift currents. The protected cove at Ayala provides a relatively calm launch site, but paddlers and small boaters should still exercise caution when venturing out. Nearby recreation areas include the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and historic Alcatraz Island, offering ample opportunities for exploration by water.
