**Location & Facilities**
Arnold Road provides boat access to Smithville Reservoir (Little Platte River) near Plattsburg in Clinton County, MO. The site is part of the Camp Branch recreation area, located within 30 minutes of downtown Kansas City. This 7,190-acre reservoir offers a range of water-related recreation opportunities.
**Paddling Conditions & Recommendations**
This access point serves the upper, narrower section of Smithville Lake where the Little Platte River flows in. Paddlers (kayakers, canoeists, and stand-up paddleboarders) can access the official Little Platte River Paddle Route from this location. However, be aware that this upper area features shallow, obstacle-filled water with frequent stumps and submerged hazards—conditions that have caused significant damage to larger boats. This section is best suited for experienced paddlers familiar with the area or those with shallow-draft vessels. For a more straightforward launch experience, consider using the main Smithville Boat Ramp (#8) or the "W" ramp if you're unfamiliar with the upper lake's challenging conditions.
