About This Access Site
The Aroma Park boat ramp provides access to the Iroquois River, a major river (8th order stream) with an average flow of approximately 2,094 cubic feet per second and relatively gentle gradient. This access point is ideally located near the confluence where the Iroquois joins the Kankakee River, making it suitable for exploring either waterway. Paddlers should note that sandbars may present challenges during low water periods, but the Iroquois generally remains boatable year-round.

Boaters launching here can paddle upstream into the Iroquois or downstream into the Kankakee. Be aware that the Aroma Park Dam Breach is located just east of the Kankakee River Railroad Bridge and requires no portage. However, if you're planning to continue downstream on the Kankakee toward Kankakee Dam, expect a challenging 3/4-mile portage around the dam near Illinois Route 50. This location also provides access to nearby natural areas, including a preserve accessible only by boat approximately 0.25 miles downstream where the two rivers meet.
