About This Access Site
The Austin High boat ramp provides access to the Colorado River in Austin, Travis County. **Note that a gate code is required for access**, and the Texas River School requests a suggested donation of $5 per person and $5 per boat to use the ramp. This is one of the three most easily accessible launch points in the Austin area, alongside Festival Beach on the north side and the Rowing Dock on the south side.

The Colorado River at this location is a major waterway with significant flow characteristics to be aware of. As a major river (Stream Order 8), it averages 2,220 cubic feet per second with an average velocity of 7.75 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for a substantial current and plan their trips accordingly. The river's 3.2 ft/mile average gradient means moderate water movement throughout this section, making it suitable for experienced paddlers and motorboats but requiring caution for novices.
