Located on the West Branch Delaware River near Starlight, Pennsylvania (river mile 4.6), Balls Eddy is a full-service public access area operated by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. This is a popular put-in spot for canoeists and kayakers heading downstream toward Hancock and the main stem of the Delaware River. The access area includes a boat ramp, parking, mooring, docking facilities, trash disposal, and sanitary facilities.
The West Branch Delaware is a major river system with significant flow—averaging over 30,000 cubic feet per second—and a moderate gradient of approximately 2.7 feet per mile. Paddlers should expect moving water with an average velocity of 3+ feet per second. The ramp accommodates boats of unlimited horsepower and is suitable for both motorized boats and human-powered craft like canoes and kayaks. Balls Eddy is conveniently located between upstream and downstream access points, making it ideal for day trips or longer paddling routes along this section of the Delaware.
