Located at Highway 55 mile 71.5 near the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork Payette Rivers, Banks River Access is a popular put-in and take-out point for paddlers exploring the Payette River system. The facility features a steep steel and wood boat ramp, portable toilet, and information kiosk. This is a fee parking area ($3/day or $20 season pass for the Payette River System).
Banks serves as a primary access point for several popular runs, including the Class IV Staircase Run on the South Fork (4.6 miles, 33 fpm gradient) and various sections of the Main Payette suitable for paddlers of different skill levels. The location works well as either a put-in or take-out depending on your planned route. Water levels typically range from 1,000–3,000 cfs near Banks during spring and summer recreation season.
For extended trips or nearby camping, Cold Springs Campground in the Boise National Forest is located within 10 miles and offers reservable sites. Plan ahead for parking fees and check current river flow conditions before launching.
