About This Access Site
Bernards Landing provides boat access to the Snake River near Melba in Owyhee County. This site serves as a launch point for the major Snake River corridor, which features significant flow and gradient. The river here is part of a substantial waterway—the Snake is a major stream order-9 river with an average flow around 49,000 cubic feet per second and notable current velocity, making water conditions an important consideration for paddlers and motorized boaters alike.

Users should be prepared for the Snake River's dynamic conditions. The river's strong average velocity (10.81 ft/sec) and substantial gradient mean currents can be swift, particularly during high water periods. Launch conditions may vary seasonally—high water can create challenging entry conditions with limited eddy assistance, while low water may require some effort to reach deep water. Camping at this access site is limited to a maximum of 4 days within any 30-day period. As with all public access areas, pack out what you pack in and recreate responsibly.

The site provides access to the scenic Snake River canyon, where the Birds of Prey Scenic Float area and nearby Celebration Park offer recreational opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and other boaters exploring this major Idaho waterway.
