Big Marsh Wildlife Area

Big Marsh Wildlife Area provides a boat launch onto the West Fork Cedar River near Allison in Butler County. This access point is best suited for small watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and small fishing boats, particularly during lower water conditions. The river in this area supports populations of walleye, smallmouth bass, and northern pike, making it popular with anglers.

**Important navigation considerations:** Paddlers should be aware of numerous log jams throughout this section of the West Fork Cedar River that can obstruct passage. A temporary dam is located approximately 1.5 miles downstream of the Big Marsh Access and is typically in place from September through November to manage water levels for wildlife management purposes. Low water flows may occur seasonally, so canoes and kayaks are highly recommended over larger motorized boats. Scout water conditions before launching, as navigability varies throughout the year.
