About This Access Site
Big Sandy is a convenient access point on Lewisville Lake near Shady Shores in Denton County. The ramp features a two-lane concrete launch with parking for approximately 24-26 vehicles, making it suitable for smaller groups. To reach the ramp from Lewisville, take I-35E north, turn east on Shady Shores Road, then north on Lake Shore Drive.

Lewisville Lake is a large 29,592-acre impoundment on the Elm Fork Trinity River with excellent recreational opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The lake is surrounded by over 20 parks and access points, offering paddlers multiple launch and takeout options for extended trips. Big Sandy is one of four open access points on the lake (along with Doe Branch, Point Vista, and Arrowhead), providing reliable year-round access for water sports enthusiasts in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
