Located on the south shore of Bois Blanc Island in Lake Huron's South Channel, this boat launch provides access to one of Michigan's remote island destinations, approximately 5 miles north of Cheboygan. The facility features a 400-foot south pier (single-side access) and a 120-foot north pier (both sides available), offering multiple mooring options for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The site is protected by riprap structures and is situated in the Straits of Mackinac region.
The access site operates seasonally from late May through mid-October and offers amenities including day-use dockage, picnic tables, grills, and electric hookups (20, 30, and 50-amp service). A public phone and dog run are also available. Note that Bois Blanc Island has no paved roads; access is by ferry from Cheboygan or by private watercraft. For paddlers planning multi-day trips, Fire Tower Road provides mainland access to inland lakes including Twin Lakes and Lake Thompson, though water levels and conditions should be verified before paddling.
