The Bonnet Carre boat ramp in Montz provides access to Westside Canal and the broader Bonnet Carre Spillway recreation area. Located just off Highway 61 near Laplace, this access point is convenient for paddlers and boaters launching into the canal system. The ramp is situated atop the spillway levee and serves as one of two main boat launching sites in the area.
The Bonnet Carre Spillway system has become a major recreation destination, drawing approximately 250,000 visitors annually. Beyond paddling, the area supports fishing, crawfishing, and wildlife watching. The spillway's flat water and canal system make it accessible for kayakers and canoeists of various skill levels. Facilities at the spillway include a primitive campground, making it suitable for extended paddling trips in the region.
**Getting There:** From I-310 south, take Highway 61 west toward Norco and Laplace. Continue approximately 6 miles past the Shell Oil Refinery and before the Spillway Bridge, then turn right onto the Spillway Boat Launch access road on top of the levee.
