Located in Drakesboro along the Pond River, the Borrow Pit ramp provides downstream access to this scenic waterway within the Peabody Wildlife Management Area. The site is situated in a region known for its sloughs and wetlands, which support abundant waterfowl and occasional bald eagle activity. The Pond River experiences a notable white bass run in early April, making spring an excellent time for fishing and paddling.
**Access & Regulations:** A user permit ($15.00) is required to enter the wildlife management area and can be purchased at any location selling Kentucky hunting and fishing licenses. Parking is limited to designated areas and maintained roads—do not block gates or access roads. Note that firearms cannot be discharged within 100 yards of the boat ramp. Vehicles are restricted to maintained roads only.
This ramp serves kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters looking to explore the Pond River system. The setting offers good wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly for bird watchers, though paddlers should be prepared for the typical conditions of a rural Kentucky waterway with wetland characteristics.
