Box Canyon Boating Ramp

Box Canyon offers access to one of the Henry's Fork's most dramatic and productive sections. Located 1 mile west of Island Park Ranger Station (follow Riverside Drive west toward Buffalo Hydro Dam), this ramp provides entry to a renowned 3-mile stretch characterized by steep basalt canyon walls and strong currents. The area is known for excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for large rainbow trout, though the confined canyon creates challenging conditions with deep runs and turbulent riffles that require careful navigation.

**Access & Conditions:** The boat ramp is located within Box Canyon Campground—drive through the campground to reach the launch. Note that the upper section above the bridge prohibits motorized vessels; however, oarsmen and paddlers can row upstream. This section features gentle to moderate flows through ranch land, timber-covered canyons, and spring creek-like stretches. The river can be shallow in places, limiting access to kayaks, canoes, and smaller watercraft. Box Canyon Campground is nearby for overnight stays, making this a convenient base for multi-day trips on this scenic section of the Henry's Fork.

Various species of tress and wildflowers can be seen on the trail, as well as songbirds, waterfowl and occasional wildlife. The trail is open for the following uses: Motorcycle Trail Riding, Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide.
