About This Access Site
Boy Scout Crossing #1 is a boat ramp providing access to the Pond River in the Peabody Wildlife Management Area near Paradise in Ohio County, Kentucky. This downstream ramp serves as the primary boat-in access point to the newly expanded wildlife management area, making it an ideal launch for kayakers and canoeists exploring the river and its associated sloughs and wetlands. The area is known for its wildlife viewing opportunities, including bald eagles that nest nearby and use the river for hunting, along with abundant waterfowl in the shallow water habitats.

The Pond River offers seasonal paddling interest, with a notable white bass run occurring around early April. Paddlers should be aware that interior access to the WMA is currently limited mainly to walk-in and boat-in access, and parking areas are still being developed by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. Parking should be used only in designated areas and along maintained roads—do not block gates or access roads. The wildlife area maintains a 100-yard firearms exclusion zone around the boat ramp for safety.

For current information about access conditions, parking improvements, and any updates to facilities, contact Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources at 1-800-858-1549 or check their social media and website for the latest details about this developing access area.
