Buzzard's Roost offers convenient access to Lake Greenwood and the scenic Saluda River headwaters on Greenwood County's 11,400-acre lake. The access features a paved parking area and concrete boat ramp located under the Highway 39 bridge on the southern (Saluda town) side. This is one of five boat ramps serving the lake, making it a reliable launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.
The Saluda River section leading to Buzzard's Roost is characterized by mostly flat water with occasional small riffles—ideal for paddlers of varying skill levels. From upstream put-ins like Black's Bridge near Prosperity, the paddle to Buzzard's Roost Dam spans approximately 22 miles. The lake itself offers 212 miles of shoreline to explore, with an average depth of 21.8 feet. Note that accessing the river from either side requires about a 0.2-mile carry with your boat.
This location provides excellent access for day trips, longer expeditions, and fishing opportunities, with proximity to Ninety Six National Historic Site for additional recreation in the area.
