About This Access Site
Caldwell Park in Redding, CA provides public access to the mighty Sacramento River, one of California's major waterways. Situated along the river's upper reaches, this boat launch site is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats.

The Sacramento River is a large, free-flowing river with high water velocities, draining a vast 23,577 square mile watershed. At this location, the river has an average gradient of 22.4 feet per mile and an average flow rate over 38,800 cubic feet per second. These conditions make the river well-suited for experienced paddlers and boaters, but may pose challenges for beginners.

The boat ramp at Caldwell Park offers ADA-accessible access to the river. Nearby amenities include picnic areas, trails, and an aquatic center, making this a convenient hub for river-based recreation. There are no fees to use the launch site. Paddlers and boaters should check current river conditions before heading out, as flows can be high, especially during spring snowmelt. Several campgrounds within 10 miles provide accommodation options for those looking to spend time on the river.
