The California Street Boat Ramp in North Bend provides convenient public access to Coos Bay, making it an accessible launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. Located in the lower Coos estuary, this ramp offers straightforward water access for exploring the bay's sheltered waters. The facility is suitable for a range of paddling skill levels interested in exploring the estuarine environment.
From this location, paddlers can access the scenic South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, located at the southern end of the Coos estuary, which offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and research-focused paddling. The area supports both casual recreation and fishing activities. Several campgrounds are available within 10 miles of the ramp, including WILD MARE HORSE CAMP, HORSFALL SAND CAMPING, and HAUSER SAND CAMPING (all reservable), making it convenient for multi-day paddling trips.
Before heading out, paddlers should be aware of typical estuarine conditions and tidal flows. As with all coastal access points, check local conditions and tide charts to plan your trip accordingly.
