The Castaic Lake State Recreation Area (West) provides a convenient boat ramp for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters to access the expansive Castaic Lake. With 18 launching lanes on the main ramp and an additional 6 lanes on the west ramp, there is ample space to launch your watercraft.
The lagoon area is also accessible, with a launch ramp on the east side specifically for non-gasoline powered boats like kayaks and canoes. This offers a more sheltered paddling experience compared to the main lake. Castaic Lake is a sizable reservoir, covering over 2,000 acres, so there is plenty of room to explore by boat.
The recreation area can be reached by exiting Interstate 5 at Hughes Lake Road, about 41 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. Fees are charged for vehicle and boat entry, which can be paid online through the county parks reservation system. Nearby campgrounds and other recreation areas like Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge provide opportunities for further outdoor adventure in the region.
