About This Access Site
The Cave Run Dam Tailwater boat ramp provides access to the Licking River below Cave Run Lake Dam in the Daniel Boone National Forest, approximately 60 miles east of Lexington. This is a day-use recreation area with a developed boat launch, making it convenient for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters looking to explore the tailwater section. The area includes picnic facilities and basic amenities. For directions, take I-64 to exits 123, 133, or 137.

The tailwater offers distinct paddling conditions compared to the main lake. The narrow river channel below the dam provides a more confined paddling environment than the broader lake, with relatively calm water suitable for various skill levels. Anglers frequent this area for fishing opportunities. If you're looking for multi-day paddling trips or want to camp nearby, several reservable campgrounds are located within 10 miles, including Claylick Boat-In Campground and Twin Knobs Campground.
