About This Access Site
Cedar Point Recreation Area offers boat access to Lake Buchanan, one of the Highland Lakes system on the Colorado River in Llano County. Located on the south shore with over 3.5 miles of shoreline, this unimproved ramp provides a year-round launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The site is approximately 80 miles from downtown Austin, making it accessible for day trips or extended paddling adventures.

**Access & Amenities:** The ramp is unimproved, so paddlers should be prepared for basic conditions. The recreation area includes a parking area, restroom facilities, and camping options nearby if you want to extend your visit. Directions from Llano: take FM 2241 north at Bluffton, continue approximately 4 miles, turn right on FM 3014, and proceed 0.3 mile to the main entrance. The site is also accessible from Buchanan Dam via Highway 261 through Bluffton.

**What to Expect:** Lake Buchanan is a large reservoir offering miles of open water suitable for various paddling styles. The calm lake environment makes it ideal for recreational paddling, fishing, and exploring. Given the unimproved ramp, hand-carry launching is feasible for smaller watercraft, though larger boats may require more preparation. Plan accordingly for weather and water conditions year-round.
