Central Basin

The Central Basin boat ramp provides direct access to the Oakland Harbor, part of the broader San Francisco Bay. This is a full-service marina facility, with a two-lane boat launch ramp and a nearby boat wash station. However, the launch ramp is only accessible to marina tenants, and is no longer open to the general public. Paddlers and boaters without slip rentals at the Central Basin Marina will need to find alternative access points to the Oakland Harbor and San Francisco Bay.

The Oakland Harbor and San Francisco Bay offer generally calm, protected waters well-suited for kayaking, canoeing, and small motorized boats. The area features scenic views of nearby Alcatraz Island and the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. Boaters and paddlers should be aware of the busy commercial and recreational boat traffic in the harbor and bay. Safety, navigation, and tidal considerations are important when accessing this waterway.
