About This Access Site
Charleston Boat Basin is a full-service boat ramp facility located on Coos Bay in southwestern Oregon, offering convenient access to this sheltered estuary. The launch features multiple ramps and temporary dockage suitable for kayaks, canoes, and recreational boats. A daily launch pass is required and can be purchased at the kiosk in front of the Marina office, which accepts cash, Visa, and MasterCard. The facility includes restrooms, fish cleaning stations, and ample parking.

Coos Bay is a large, sheltered estuary ideal for paddlers seeking calm-water exploration. The bay's southern reaches provide protected paddling with access to nearby natural areas including South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve and Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge—both excellent destinations for wildlife viewing and scenic paddling. Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles of the basin, including Wild Mare Horse Camp, Horsfall Sand Camping, and Bluebill Campground, all offering reservable sites for trip planning.

Note that conditions near the mouth of the bay can be influenced by ocean swells and tidal activity. Paddlers should be familiar with tidal timing and plan trips accordingly for the safest water conditions.
