About This Access Site
Clara Lake is accessible via a public boat landing located on the southwest bay, approximately 12 miles north of Lutsen in Cook County. The launch supports boats up to 12-18 feet, with no launch fees. This scenic site provides access to the Tait River system, which flows between Wills Lake upstream and White Pine Lake downstream, eventually draining to Lake Superior via the Tait and Poplar Rivers.

The lake serves as a gateway to backcountry paddling opportunities in the Superior National Forest. Two wilderness campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, each equipped with a fire grate, latrine, and picnic table. Paddlers should come prepared for backcountry travel: treat or boil all water, hang food packs properly, and extinguish fires completely before leaving your site. The nearby Sawbill Lake Campground (within 10 miles) offers reservable camping for those seeking additional facilities. This is an ideal access point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore quieter backcountry waters with minimal development.
