Clay WMA offers a convenient boat ramp access point on the Licking River in Pleasant Valley, Nicholas County. Located off KY 57 (Cassidy Creek Road), the ramp is clearly marked with signage at the Clay WMA offices. This access point serves as a popular take-out for paddlers and boaters floating downstream sections of the Licking River and provides put-in access for those exploring upstream waters.
The area is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats. A small johnboat with an electric trolling motor or small outboard works well on this section of the river. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, with lower water conditions typical in fall—plan your trip accordingly. The nearby Claylick Boat-in Campground offers 13 primitive campsites accessible by boat or on foot from the parking area, with boat moorings available for overnight stays.
To reach the ramp from I-64 west of Morehead, take Exit 133 onto KY 801 South, then continue on Highway 1274 South and Highway 3138 West to access Clay WMA. The facility is ideal for day trips or as a base camp for exploring this section of the Licking River.
