The Clayhatchee boat ramp provides access to the Choctawhatchee River, a major waterway in Alabama that flows for over 140 miles. The ramp is located below the Highway 92 bridge in the community of Clayhatchee.
This is a concrete boat ramp situated on a small bluff overlooking the river. It is a single-lane ramp, and may be quite steep, particularly during low water levels when the river can be shallow near the launch site. Parking is available on the eastern side of the bridge, as the western side is occupied by the boat ramp itself.
The Choctawhatchee River is a substantial waterway, with an average flow of over 7,700 cubic feet per second and a total drop in elevation of 157 feet over its 143-mile length. This makes it a popular destination for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats looking to explore the scenic waterway and diverse wildlife habitat along its banks. Paddlers should be prepared for moderate current and plan accordingly when undertaking longer trips.
