The Clearwater access is a DNR public boat ramp located on the north side of the Mississippi River adjacent to State Highway 24 in Sherburne County. This paved ramp provides convenient access to River Mile 913, with parking available for visitors. The facility is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boats.
At this location on the upper-middle Mississippi, expect a major river system with significant flow and current. The river here averages over 685,000 cubic feet per second with an average velocity of 11 feet per second, making it suitable primarily for experienced paddlers and those comfortable with main-channel conditions. The relatively gentle gradient (0.8 ft/mile average) means you're in a slower, more navigable section compared to the upper river, though strong current should always be anticipated. This access point is useful for day trips and serves as a launching point for downstream paddling or boating in the Clearwater to Anoka segment.
