About This Access Site
**Location & Facilities:** Coe Lake is a 55-acre lake located near Makinen in St. Louis County, about 10 miles southeast of Gilbert. The primary access point is a gravel boat ramp on the south side of the lake off St. Louis County Road 16, with limited parking available. An alternative carry-down access is available at a picnic area on the east shore, which features a small sand beach.

**What to Know Before You Go:** A mile-and-a-half channel connects the boat ramp to the main lake and is designated for motorboat traffic only—swimming, fishing, and loitering between channel buoys are prohibited. A dam is also present on the lake. These restrictions make Coe Lake less suitable for kayaking and canoeing compared to other regional options. The lake does host a nearby COE marina facility where boat rentals, bait, and supplies are available. Standard Minnesota launch fees may apply depending on permit requirements.
