The Coinjock boat ramp provides public access to the Intracoastal Waterway at Mile Marker 50 in Currituck County. Located between the road and the canal, this is a straightforward launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring the waterway and nearby creeks. To reach the ramp from Coinjock, take SR 1405 approximately 0.5 miles to SR 1142, then continue 1 mile to the facility.
This area offers access to calm, sheltered paddling along the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby unnamed creeks and gunkhole areas. Boaters should note that some shallow-draft creeks in the vicinity are not suitable for deep-draft vessels. The surrounding region features two significant wildlife refuges—Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge and Currituck National Wildlife Refuge—making this an excellent launch point for exploring protected coastal habitats. Be prepared for mosquitoes, particularly during warmer months, and consider anchoring in deeper waters (12 feet or more) when exploring shallow creek areas.
