About This Access Site
Columbus-Belmont State Park offers direct access to the Mississippi River via a dedicated boat ramp, making it a convenient launch point for kayakers and canoeists exploring this major waterway. The park encompasses 156 wooded acres along scenic river bluffs and includes additional amenities such as camping, hiking trails, a museum, and interpretive exhibits focused on Civil War history and the Trail of Tears. The overlook areas provide excellent views of the Mississippi River valley.

Paddlers should be prepared for the Mississippi River's significant size and current—this is a major river (Stream Order 10) with an average flow of approximately 685,000 cubic feet per second and average velocity of 11 feet per second. The river's substantial size and flow make it suitable primarily for experienced paddlers and boaters with appropriate equipment and knowledge of large-river navigation. Weather conditions and river conditions can change quickly, so check current water levels and forecasts before launching. The park's location in Columbus, Hickman County, offers a historic setting along Kentucky's Great River Road and National Scenic Byway.
