The Southside Recreation Area boat ramp provides access to Conchas Lake, one of New Mexico's largest reservoirs. Located in San Miguel County near Tucumcari, this launch point serves paddlers and boaters exploring both the Conchas River arm (extending 11 miles southwest) and the South Canadian River arm (approximately 14 miles long). The lake's widest point reaches 2.5 miles, with multiple coves and canyon areas ideal for kayaking and canoeing exploration.
This non-reservable facility includes a boat launch ramp and nearby South Area Campground, making it convenient for day trips or overnight stays. The area hosts a variety of watercraft from kayaks and canoes to larger powerboats and houseboats. A marina and additional boat ramps on both the north and south sides of the lake provide flexible launch options, along with concessionaire stores carrying fishing and boating supplies. At an elevation of 4,253 feet, the lake is also suitable for swimming, water skiing, and other water sports, with opportunities for hiking and birding along the extensive shoreline.
