Cooleys Landing is a well-developed public access point on the New River in Fort Lauderdale, offering excellent facilities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The 3-acre site features three separate boat ramps, courtesy docks for easy loading and unloading, 22 marked trailer parking spaces, and restrooms. Parking fees are collected via a kiosk system.
The New River at this location is a major waterway (Stream Order 8) with significant flow and current. Paddlers should be prepared for an average water velocity of 5.37 feet/second and a moderate gradient of 7 feet per mile. The river drains a large 8,016-square-mile watershed and carries an average flow of over 12,000 cubic feet per second, making it suitable for experienced paddlers and motorboats but requiring caution for beginners. The landing provides convenient access to multiple river branches including the Tarpon River, South Fork New River, and North Fork New River systems.
