About This Access Site
Cooney Reservoir State Park offers excellent boat access in south-central Montana, located 22 miles southwest of Laurel on US Highway 212, then 8 miles west of Boyd on county road. The park features **three boat ramps with docks**, making it well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and larger boats. A fish cleaning station, boat trailer parking, and extra vehicle parking are available at the Red Lodge Arm area. The site also provides both flush and vault toilets, drinking water, maps, and other amenities including picnic areas and coin-operated showers.

Paddlers will find multiple access points throughout the park, with some campsites offering direct lake access where you can tie up to shore. The reservoir provides a scenic flatwater paddling environment in a mountain setting. Day-use and camping fees apply. The park offers a 14-day camping maximum during any 30-day period. Nearby Red Lodge offers additional services and recreational opportunities, including golf and museums.
