About This Access Site
The Tira Satellite boat ramp provides access to Jim Chapman Lake (formed by impoundment of the South Sulphur River) in Hopkins County. This two-lane concrete ramp is operated by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and accommodates various watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The facility offers parking for up to 90 vehicles, making it suitable for day-use paddling and boating trips. For more information, contact the park at (903) 945-5256.

To reach the ramp from Texas Highway 154/19, turn west at Birthright onto FM 71, travel 4 miles to FM 3505, then turn north to the park entrance. The Tira location is part of the larger Cooper Lake State Park system, which provides additional amenities including fishing piers, fish-cleaning stations, and boat docks. Note that as of September 2025, water levels have been low; this ramp remains operational, though paddlers should check current conditions before visiting. The park is surrounded by state park and wildlife management areas, offering a peaceful setting for kayaking and fishing in a scenic natural area.
