About This Access Site
Cunard River Access provides a public boat ramp on the New River near Fayetteville, located at the confluence area where the New and Gauley rivers meet to form the Kanawha River. The access point is situated downstream of Kanawha Falls and offers both a concrete boat ramp and sandy beach launch areas. There is no parking fee, and the site is accessible year-round. For more information, you can contact the nearby Canyon Rim Visitor Center at (304) 574-2115.

The New River in this section flows through the scenic New River Gorge, one of the oldest river systems on the continent, with rugged terrain and whitewater conditions. This access point works well for both kayakers and canoeists looking to paddle sections of the gorge, as well as motorized boaters and anglers. If using the boat ramp, be mindful of other users by launching from the sandy areas when possible to keep the concrete ramp clear for vehicle access. Nearby camping options at Thayer Campground, Burnwood Group Campsite, and Brooklyn Campground (all within 10 miles) provide convenient overnight accommodations for paddling trips.
