Dam Tailwaters

Located at Federal Dam in Cass County, the Dam Tailwaters site provides a paved boat ramp for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters accessing the Leech Lake River and Portage Bay on Leech Lake. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this recreation area is situated within the Chippewa National Forest and serves as a convenient launch point for paddlers exploring the region's waterways. The site offers full amenities including flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station to support day-use and overnight visitors.

Paddlers should note that swimming is not permitted at the boat ramps, docks, or mooring canal. The area is popular with anglers targeting walleye, perch, bass, and northern pike. Beyond paddling, the recreation area features four primitive walk-in tent sites, picnic shelters, and overnight boat mooring options, making it a well-equipped hub for extended water-based recreation in the region.
