Located on the south side of South Bayshore Road near Lakeside Marblehead, the Dempsey Wildlife Area offers excellent public access to Sandusky Bay. This year-round, free facility features a well-maintained four-lane concrete boat ramp suitable for all vessel types, including kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats. The site includes a semi-protected boat bay that provides some shelter from bay conditions, making it convenient for launching and retrieving boats.
The access area is fully developed for recreation, with approximately 100 parking spaces (including 45 car-only spots), restrooms, water availability, and a picnic area. Paddlers and anglers will appreciate the handicap-accessible L-shaped fishing pier and small fishing dock. As a bay access point, expect variable water conditions typical of Lake Erie's Sandusky Bay, so paddlers should check forecasts before heading out, particularly for longer trips or during windy conditions.
