About This Access Site
Devilfish Lake is a 405-acre lake in Cook County, Minnesota, located approximately 11 miles north of Hovland via Arrowhead Trail, then 7 miles west on Esther Lake Road. The lake features excellent water clarity and a maximum depth of 40 feet, making it suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. A public boat launch provides access to the water for all users.

The lake supports healthy populations of brook trout, lake trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, and perch. Paddlers should note that there is one backcountry camping site available on Northern Light Lake (accessible from Devilfish Lake) on a first-come, first-served basis. If camping, remember to hang food packs, fully extinguish fires before leaving your site, treat or boil all drinking water, and wash dishes and yourself away from the water. This remote location offers a near-wilderness experience ideal for those seeking solitude on the water.
