About This Access Site
Devil's Elbow is a public boat ramp providing access to Lake Barkley near Golden Pond in Trigg County. The ramp serves kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore this large reservoir formed by the Cumberland River. The site offers a straightforward launch point for paddlers interested in exploring the lake's calm waters and protected coves.

This location is excellent for wildlife viewing and birding enthusiasts. The surrounding area hosts active heron rookeries on offshore islands (which are closed to landing), and paddlers may spot osprey, cliff swallows, and peregrine falcons, particularly in winter months. Sandbars near the main channel attract large flocks of pelicans during spring and fall migrations, with October being especially productive for bird watching. An additional point of interest is an old rock quarry accessible by water on the south side of the ramp.

Before visiting, paddlers should confirm current access conditions, facilities, and any applicable fees through Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources or Lake Barkley State Park. This location works well for recreational paddling and wildlife observation rather than distance paddling, given the lake's reservoir character.
