About This Access Site
The Division Street boat ramp provides direct access to the Mississippi River in Savanna, Carroll County. This is one of three public launching facilities within the city limits, with additional ramps available at Marquette Park and Savanna Marina. The ramp is conveniently located and serves as a solid entry point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters looking to access this major waterway.

The Mississippi River at this location is a powerful, high-volume waterway—the second-largest river system in North America with an average flow exceeding 685,000 cubic feet per second and average velocities around 11 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for strong currents and substantial river traffic, including barge operations. The river's relatively gentle slope (0.8 ft/mile) means less whitewater hazard, but the sheer volume of water demands respect and experience. The area offers access to sandbars, sloughs, and backwaters suitable for picnicking, multi-day cruises, and fishing.

Before launching, paddlers should check current water conditions and be aware of the Mississippi's characteristics: heavy commercial traffic, variable water levels, and strong seasonal currents. Life jackets and proper safety equipment are essential.
