Located in Grant County's Desert Wildlife Recreation Area, the Dodson & Winchester access site provides a concrete boat ramp and gravel parking lot on the Winchester Wasteway, just 3.3 miles south of the I-90 Dodson Road exit (164). The site includes a pit toilet facility and is open year-round. A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife vehicle parking permit is required and can be obtained where fishing licenses are sold.
This access point is ideal for paddlers looking to explore the Winchester Wasteway and connect to the larger Potholes Reservoir system. From here, you can paddle approximately 16 miles downstream to a take-out at Road C, or continue an additional 8 miles to the boat ramp at Potholes Reservoir State Park. Be aware that the Winchester Wasteway terminates with a two-step waterfall at its confluence with Potholes Reservoir, so plan your take-out accordingly. The surrounding area also provides year-round fishing opportunities and access to numerous ponds and marshes within the Desert Wildlife Recreation Area.
