About This Access Site
The Downsville access site is located just downstream of Highway 25 bridge in Menomonie, offering a convenient put-in and take-out point on the Red Cedar River. This dedicated boat ramp features a parking lot immediately adjacent to the launch area on the right (south) side of the bridge. The location provides good access for kayakers, canoeists, and other small watercraft looking to paddle sections of the river.

From this access point, paddlers can explore the scenic Red Cedar River, which flows through relatively flat bottomlands with gentle current. The area is known for wildlife viewing opportunities, including otters. Downstream from Downsville, paddlers will encounter a notable sand bank and can continue toward Champney Park Boat Ramp (about 1.4 miles downstream) or further toward Tainter Lake. Be aware of potential strainers and obstacles in the river, and check current conditions before launching.
