The Drummond access site on the Clark Fork River offers walk-in access only, with no developed boat ramp. This is a day-use-only location suitable for launching smaller, maneuverable boats such as inflatable kayaks, canoes, and rafts. Due to the river's character—featuring non-technical water with forested canyon scenery—this is an excellent starting point for float trips. A popular 11-mile float extends downstream to Forest Grove (where a cement ramp provides an alternative take-out), or paddlers can extend to approximately 14 miles by continuing to Dry Creek.
**Important considerations:** Access to the water is difficult and involves walking in. Larger fishing rafts and drift boats are not recommended for this section. Paddlers should be aware that approximately 25 miles downstream from Drummond, a diversion dam requires portaging. The river below the dam continues through forested terrain and eventually receives waters from Rock Creek and the Blackfoot River. Inflatable boats are the most practical choice for navigating this section successfully.
The Drummond area also provides convenient access to nearby recreation, including the scenic Garnet Back Country Byway and extensive winter trail systems in the Garnet Mountains, making it an ideal base for multi-day outdoor adventures.
