About This Access Site
Located on Forest Service Road 172 near Manitou Junction in the Superior National Forest, Dumbbell Lake offers a well-maintained public boat ramp with a concrete log construction and attached dock. The facility includes parking for several trailer rigs and a picnic area, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboat users of various experience levels. The ramp is positioned at the southwest end of the lake for convenient water access.

Dumbbell Lake contains two backcountry camping sites accessible only by boat, making it an excellent destination for overnight paddling trips. These first-come, first-served sites are near-wilderness single-party locations, each equipped with a fire grate, latrine, and picnic table. Visitors should come prepared with water treatment supplies and plan to hang food packs. The lake supports a variety of fish species including musky, walleye, and bass. Nearby campground alternatives include Ninemile Lake Campground and Little Isabella River Campground, both reservable and within 10 miles of the access point.
