The Dungannon boat ramp provides access to the Clinch River, a major 8th-order river that flows for over 330 miles through southwest Virginia. With an average flow of over 6,800 cubic feet per second and an average gradient of nearly 5 feet per mile, the Clinch River offers a productive and scenic float for paddlers and boaters.
This access site is one of only two concrete boat ramps on the Clinch River, making it a popular put-in point. The river here is known to have good populations of smallmouth bass, walleye, sauger, sunfish, and catfish, making it a prime destination for anglers as well. Nearby campgrounds at High Knob and Bark Camp provide accommodation options for those planning multi-day trips.
Paddlers and boaters should be aware of the Clinch River's size and flow characteristics, and plan accordingly. The river contains Class I-III rapids in some sections, so experience and appropriate safety gear is recommended, especially for inexperienced users. Overall, the Dungannon access site offers a great entry point to explore this scenic and productive waterway.
