About This Access Site
Dusty Ridge is a boat ramp access point on Lake Hickory, the impounded section of the Catawba River in Taylorsville, Alexander County, North Carolina. This location provides access to one of the Southeast's major river systems, which drains over 4,000 square miles and maintains an average flow of over 6,000 cubic feet per second. Lake Hickory itself is a relatively calm, controlled water body created by hydroelectric impoundment, making it suitable for various recreational boating activities.

The Catawba River system is characterized by significant elevation change and strong historical flow patterns, though conditions at the lake impoundment are substantially more manageable than the main river channel. Boaters should be aware that this major river system can experience water level fluctuations due to dam operations upstream. The surrounding area is in the foothills of North Carolina, providing scenic access to the broader Catawba watershed that extends toward South Carolina.
