Located just north of the Julien Dubuque Bridge (U.S. Highway 20) in East Dubuque, this free public boat launch provides convenient access to the Mississippi River. The ramp is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore this section of the Upper Mississippi River.
The Mississippi River here is a major waterway with significant flow—averaging over 685,000 cubic feet per second—and current speeds around 11 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for a large, powerful river with typical water velocities and plan accordingly for their skill level. The area is popular for fishing, wildlife viewing, and day trips to nearby sandbars. Multiple campgrounds and recreational facilities are located along the Upper Mississippi River Project (Pools 11-22), making this an excellent base for extended paddling trips or weekend getaways.
This launch provides a gateway to one of North America's most iconic rivers, with plenty of nearby amenities and recreation opportunities along the shoreline.
