About This Access Site
This boat ramp provides access to El Dorado Lake, an 8,000-acre reservoir impounding the Walnut River in Butler County. Area 1 is located near the dam on the southwestern portion of the lake, offering a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The El Dorado State Park system manages four separate access areas around the lake's shoreline, all equipped with boat ramps, camping facilities, and hiking trails.

The Walnut River is a large waterway (Stream Order 7) with an average flow of approximately 1,064 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 3.3 feet per mile. Paddlers can expect steady current conditions with an average velocity of about 3 feet per second. The lake itself provides calmer water conditions suitable for various skill levels, while the river sections feature more noticeable flow. The surrounding landscape showcases the scenic Flint Hills terrain with wildflower displays and trail systems for additional recreation opportunities.
