The Dam Site boat ramp at Elephant Butte Lake provides convenient access to New Mexico's largest state park reservoir on the Rio Grande. This location features one of four maintained boat ramps in the park and includes amenities such as docks, pumpout facilities (free for boaters), and nearby picnic areas. The ramp is well-suited for launching kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft to explore the expansive lake.
Elephant Butte Lake, created by a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation dam built in 1916, offers plenty of open water and beach access for paddlers. The park accommodates diverse watercraft from small kayaks to larger houseboats, with three marinas throughout the park providing fuel and services. Repair shops and additional services are available in nearby Truth or Consequences. All paddlers should wear a life jacket and check with the park manager about any restricted areas. The visitor center and state park headquarters can be accessed via Roads 179 and 195 near Marina Del Sur.
